Google Meet
How to get a Google Meet transcript from the recording
To get a transcript of a Google Meet call, download the recording from your Google Drive (My Drive › Meet Recordings) and upload the MP4 to HiText, from your phone or the browser. In a few minutes you have the full text and an AI summary with decisions and next steps. If you can't record in Meet, record the call's audio with the HiText app instead.
Kickoff call with the client:
- Scope: New onboarding flow, iOS and web.
- Budget: Approved, invoice on delivery.
- Next step: Wireframes by next Wednesday.
Google Meet recording to text
- 1
Find the recording
Meet saves recordings in the organizer's Google Drive, in My Drive › Meet Recordings, and emails the link. Processing can take a while after the call ends.
- 2
Download the MP4
In Drive, open the menu next to the file (⋮) and choose Download. If you weren't the organizer, ask them to share the file with you first.
- 3
Upload it to HiText
Upload the MP4 to HiText in the browser, or pick it from Files in the app. The text, the summary and a translation, if you want one, are ready in minutes.
Who can record and transcribe in Google Meet
Recording a meeting in Meet isn't available on every account: Google lists eligible paid editions such as Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise, some Education licenses, Workspace Individual and Google One plans with 2 TB or more, and the admin has to allow it. Meet's own transcripts are also a paid Workspace feature. With a free Gmail account you usually can't do either.
No recording? Two options
- Record the audio with the HiText app on a phone next to the computer (tell everyone first)
- Use another recorder you already have and upload that file: M4A, MP3, WAV or video
- Long call? Files up to 2 GB in the app and 1 GB in the browser
What you get, and what you don't
You get the full text of the conversation and an AI summary you can paste into an email. HiText doesn't join the meeting as a bot, doesn't transcribe live and doesn't label each speaker. For minutes with who said what, use HiText Business. The same method works for Zoom recordings and Teams meetings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a Google Meet transcript for free?
Meet's built-in transcripts need a paid Workspace edition. If you have the recording, or record the audio yourself, HiText transcribes it and your first 30 minutes are free.
How much does HiText cost after the free minutes?
To keep transcribing you can subscribe to Pro; you see the price before paying and can cancel any time from your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, or from your account if you paid on the web.
Can I do it all from my computer?
Yes. Download the MP4 from Drive, open app.trytiro.app, sign in and upload it. You can copy the transcript or download it as a TXT file.
Does HiText connect to my Google account or calendar?
No. It doesn't read your Drive or join your meetings: you choose the file and upload it yourself.
What happens to the recording?
Your audio is used only to transcribe it and is deleted from our servers when it's done (at most within 7 days if something fails). The transcript is kept until you delete it. We don't use your content to train AI models. Details in our privacy policy.
