SRT to TXT converter: clean text from subtitles, and TXT to SRT

Paste an SRT or VTT file, or open it, and the converter removes the numbers, the timestamps and the formatting tags, leaving clean text as one paragraph or one line per subtitle. It also works the other way: paste plain text and it builds an SRT file with numbered subtitles and estimated timings. Everything runs in your browser. To get subtitles from audio or video, use HiText.

HiText transcribes audio and video and gives you the text and a summary. Your first 30 minutes are free.

Works in your browser: nothing you paste or open is sent or saved.

How to convert SRT to TXT

  1. 1

    Open or paste the subtitles

    Open the .srt or .vtt file with the button, or paste its content. The result updates as you type.

  2. 2

    Choose the layout

    One paragraph joins the subtitles into running text, ready to read or quote. One line per subtitle keeps the original line breaks.

  3. 3

    Copy or download

    Copy the text or download it as a .txt file. For the opposite, choose Text → SRT and download the .srt file.

What gets removed

  • The subtitle numbers (1, 2, 3…) and every timestamp line (00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,200)
  • The WEBVTT header and NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks of VTT files
  • Formatting tags such as <i>, <b>, <font> and positioning codes like {\an8}
  • Lines repeated back to back, which auto-generated captions often contain

How TXT to SRT timings work

Each line of your text becomes a subtitle; long lines are split at sentence ends and kept to two lines of up to 42 characters. The converter can't hear your audio, so the timings are an estimate: each subtitle lasts its length read at 15 characters per second (between 1.5 and 7 seconds), one after another. Adjust them in your video editor or subtitle tool.

To get subtitles with real timings from a recording, transcribe it first: see video to text, YouTube video to text or the free audio to text tool. Converting a voice note? Use the OGG and OPUS to MP3 converter.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is read and converted inside your browser; nothing is sent or stored, and you don't need an account.

Does it work with VTT files?

Yes. WebVTT files (.vtt) are cleaned the same way: header, notes, cue settings and timestamps are removed.

Are the TXT to SRT timings accurate?

No, they're estimated from the length of each line, because the converter doesn't have your audio. They give you a correctly formatted SRT to adjust in your editor. For real timings, transcribe the recording with HiText.

Can I get a transcript from a video instead of subtitles?

Yes. HiText transcribes audio and video files, YouTube links and voice notes, and gives you the text and an AI summary. Your first 30 minutes are free.

Is there a size limit?

Files up to 5 MB, which is far more than a feature-length film's subtitles. Pasted text has no fixed limit.
