Microsoft Teams
How to get a Teams meeting transcript from the recording
To get a transcript of a Microsoft Teams meeting, download the recording (it's an MP4 saved in the organizer's OneDrive, or in the channel's SharePoint) and upload it to HiText from your phone or the browser. In a few minutes you have the full text and an AI summary. It's useful when transcription is turned off in your Teams or your plan doesn't include it.

Teams recording to text, step by step
- 1
Find the recording
Recordings of regular meetings are saved in the organizer's OneDrive, in My files › Recordings. Channel meetings are saved in the team's SharePoint, in the channel's Files tab › Recordings. The link also appears in the meeting chat.
- 2
Download the MP4
In OneDrive or SharePoint, open the menu next to the file (⋯) and choose Download. If you get a permission error, ask the organizer to share the file with you.
- 3
Upload it to HiText
Upload the MP4 in the browser or pick it from Files in the app. You get the transcript, a summary and, if the meeting was in another language, a translation.
Why Teams doesn't always give you a transcript
Teams transcription depends on a work or school Microsoft 365 license that includes it, and on the admin allowing it in the meeting policy; the meeting organizer can also limit who records and transcribes. In the free Teams app for personal use, transcripts aren't available. If the recording exists but the transcript doesn't, HiText gets you the text from the file.
Before you upload
- Your company may have rules about where meeting recordings can go: check them before uploading to any external service
- Recordings can expire under your organization's retention policy, so download the ones you need
- Files up to 2 GB in the app and 1 GB in the browser: a one-hour meeting fits easily
- Always tell participants the meeting is being recorded
What HiText doesn't do
HiText doesn't connect to your Microsoft account, doesn't join meetings and doesn't transcribe live. It doesn't label each speaker either: for minutes with who said what, use HiText Business. The same method works with Zoom recordings and Google Meet.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a Teams transcript without a transcription license?
Not inside Teams. But if you can download the recording, you can upload it to HiText and get the full text and a summary. Your first 30 minutes are free.
How much does it cost after the free minutes?
To keep transcribing you can subscribe to Pro; you see the price before paying and can cancel any time from your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
Can I do it from my work laptop?
Yes, nothing to install: open app.trytiro.app, sign in and upload the MP4. You can copy the transcript or download it as a TXT file.
Does it work for meetings in other languages?
Yes. It transcribes 13 languages with automatic detection and lets you read the transcript translated into the language you choose.
Is it confidential?
Your audio is used only to transcribe it and is deleted from our servers when it's done (at most within 7 days if something fails). The transcript is kept until you delete it. We don't use your content to train AI models. Details in our privacy policy.
