TurboScribe alternatives in 2026: when another tool fits better

TurboScribe is hard to beat on price for heavy use: its Unlimited plan costs $10 a month billed yearly. People look for an alternative when they want a phone app, live notes or an AI summary. HiText works on iPhone, Android and the web, with a summary and a translation. Otter writes live meetings. Whisper is free if you can run it yourself.

Pick in three questions

  1. 1

    Is TurboScribe's free plan enough?

It gives 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes each, one at a time and with low priority. If that covers you, you may not need to switch. Most people switch for the workflow, not the price.

  2. 2

Where does your audio come from?

If it's on your phone (voice notes, WhatsApp, lectures), an app with a share button saves the upload step. If it's a live call, a notetaker that joins the meeting saves the recording step.

  3. 3

What do you do with the text?

Subtitles and editing video point to Descript. Notes, a summary or a translation point to HiText. A transcript you'll publish word for word may need a human check, like Rev's.

TurboScribe, and six alternatives

Limits and prices as published on each company's pricing page, checked on November 8, 2026. They change often, so check the source before you pay.

  • TurboScribe (for reference): free plan with 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes each, one upload at a time and low priority. Unlimited costs $20 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly ($120), with files of up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Source: TurboScribe pricing
  • HiText: apps for iPhone and Android plus the web; share audio from WhatsApp, Voice Memos or Files. 30 free minutes once, then Pro. 13 languages, files up to 2 GB in the app, with an AI summary, translation, quiz and flashcards. No speaker labels or SRT/Word in the standard app
  • Otter: Basic plan with 300 minutes a month, 30 minutes per conversation and 3 file imports in total; Pro $16.99 a month, or $8.33 a month billed yearly. Best for live meetings. Source: Otter pricing
  • Notta: free plan with 120 minutes a month, conversations of up to 3 minutes and 50 uploads a month; Pro $8.17 a month billed yearly. Source: Notta pricing

Which alternative for which reason

Where HiText is not the best choice

For many hours of audio every month, TurboScribe's Unlimited plan is cheaper than most alternatives, HiText included. HiText doesn't transcribe live, doesn't join calls, and the standard app doesn't label speakers or export subtitles (SRT) or Word files. Its 30 free minutes are a one-time allowance. If you mostly upload long files on a computer and only need the text, TurboScribe may already be the right tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to TurboScribe?

Whisper is free and unlimited if you can run it on your own computer. Among online tools, Otter's free plan gives 300 minutes a month, Notta's 120, Descript's 60 and Rev's 45 in English. HiText gives 30 free minutes once, plus a free tool on the web for short clips.

What are the limits of TurboScribe's free plan?

3 files a day, each up to 30 minutes long, uploaded one at a time and transcribed with low priority, according to its pricing page on November 8, 2026.

Is there a TurboScribe app for iPhone?

We didn't find one from TurboScribe on the US App Store on November 8, 2026; TurboScribe works in the browser, on any device. If you want to transcribe from your phone's share button, HiText has apps for iPhone and Android and also works on the web.

Which alternative is cheapest for long files?

For many hours a month, TurboScribe's own Unlimited plan ($10 a month billed yearly) is hard to beat, and Whisper costs nothing but your time. HiText makes more sense when you want the summary, translation and phone apps, not the lowest price per hour.

Is this comparison neutral?

It's written by the HiText team, so we say where TurboScribe or another tool is the better option. Every figure comes from the official page linked next to it, checked on November 8, 2026; if something has changed, the official page is what counts.
