MP3 to text
How to convert an MP3 to text in a few minutes
To convert an MP3 to text, open HiText, pick the file from Files (or share it from Google Drive, email or another app) and wait a few minutes. You get the full transcript, with the language detected automatically among 13, plus an AI summary. There's no need to convert the MP3 to another format first, and your first 30 minutes are free.
A 15-minute MP3 turned into text:
- Format: MP3, 13 MB
- Language: English (detected)
- Summary: Release moved to Thursday; QA owns the checklist.
MP3 to text, step by step
- 1
Put the MP3 where you can find it
On iPhone, in the Files app (iCloud Drive or On My iPhone); on Android, in Downloads or any folder on the phone.
- 2
Open it with HiText
In HiText, choose the option to upload a file and select the MP3. You can also share it from another app (Drive, email, WhatsApp) and pick HiText.
- 3
Copy, summarize or translate
A few minutes later you have the full text, a summary of the key points and, if the audio is in another language, a translation into yours.
Where MP3 files usually come from
- Downloaded podcast episodes: see podcast to text
- Voice recorders and dictaphones that save MP3
- Audio exported from Audacity, GarageBand or other editors
- Files people send you by email or chat
Other audio formats
If your file isn't an MP3, that's fine: HiText also opens M4A, WAV, AAC and FLAC, and OGG or OPUS voice notes from WhatsApp and Telegram when you share them from another app. You don't need to convert anything before transcribing.
Tips for a cleaner MP3 transcript
- 64-128 kbps is plenty for speech; a higher bitrate won't improve the transcript
- If there's loud background music, trim the parts without speech
- If the audio mixes languages, pick the main one before transcribing
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to convert MP3 to text?
You start with 30 free minutes of transcription, no card needed. To keep transcribing you can subscribe to Pro inside the app; you see the price before paying and can cancel any time from your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
Is there a length or size limit?
An MP3 of one or two hours transcribes fine: speech in MP3 is small. The 2 GB per-file cap is meant for videos; on the web the limit is 1 GB per file.
Can I convert an MP3 to text on my computer?
Yes. At app.trytiro.app, sign in and upload the MP3. A few minutes later you can copy the text or download it as TXT, together with its summary and translation.
Does it work with songs?
It's built for speech: lectures, meetings, interviews, voice memos or podcasts. With loud music or songs, the result gets worse.
What happens to my files?
Your audio is used only to transcribe it and is deleted from our servers when it's done (at most within 7 days if something fails). The transcript and summary are kept on your device and on our servers until you delete them in the app. We don't use your content to train AI models. Details in our privacy policy.
